SHELTER: EXPLORED
Overview:
In this short exploratory project, I looked into how time spent in waiting spaces can easily be lost into passive activities, such as endless scroll. To add more richness to this experience, I designed a public transit shelter where people can both create and consume local public art. I also used this exploration as an exercise in integrating the use of VR into my design process and presentation methods.

CREATION
While waiting, visitors/users can create art that changes from day to day. A panel of rotating tiles enables the accessible creation of art. Each tile is triangular, with each side a different color, and they can be rotated to create words and image.
The creations are inherently temporary, providing a new experience each day.

VIEWING
The shelter features a digital gallery that showcases the work of local artists and writers. Each day it shows something new with an artist statement to help the viewer learn about work being created in the community.
It’s both open to the flow of bus traffic for easy viewing but also has a more intimate gallery space where a viewer can sit and look at a piece at greater length.
